So….. What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing art that was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. It is pronounced ray-key.

The Japanese word reiki means universal energy. Eastern medicine systems work with this energy, which they believe flows through all living things and is vital to well being. The energy is known as ‘Ki’ in Japan, ‘Chi’ in China and ‘prana’ in India. Reiki isn’t part of any type of religion or belief system.

A reiki practitioner puts their hands on or near your clothed body. One of the main aims is to help you to relax. A reiki practitioner aims to change and balance the ‘energy fields’ in and around the body.

Reiki is THE only complimentary therapy that is currently approved by the NHS and is widely used alongside conventional treatments within hospitals, especially on cancer wards.

A reiki practitioner might dim the lights or play soothing music. They then put their hands on, or a few inches above the body, moving their hands across the body, usually starting at your head and working down to your feet, but may focus on particular areas.

The aim is to move and balance the ‘energy’ within and around the body and to rid of any energy blocks, encouraging healing and strengthening your own internal energy. You might feel a tingling sensation, a deep relaxation, warmth or coolness throughout your body, or you might not feel anything at all, but this doesn’t mean the treatment isn’t working.

Benefits of Reiki

As a treatment Reiki can:

*help you to feel deeply relaxed
*help you cope with difficult situations
*relieve emotional stress and tension
*help to improve wellbeing
*help improve focus and balance

Furthermore, there are absolutely NO reported side effects from Reiki so it can be performed on anyone regardless of age, gender or health status.

With my own cancer journey this year I explored alternative treatments to work alongside my conventional treatments and for me reiki was both stunningly beautiful and incredibly beneficial.

My husband Marc is a 7th generation Usui Reiki Master from the original Mikao Usui lineage as well as a Martial Arts Master, and after receiving treatments from him, I followed on the same reiki journey as a 7th generation Usui Reiki Master also.

We are delighted to be able to offer Master level reiki treatments at our studio, home or workplace so if interested, please get back in touch and we’d Love to help you with this beautiful practice.

Have a awesome weekend!
